I am going to be publishing all the great work from those of you that create your own benders and send in pics. There are tons of people out there that surf the web for ideas, just so they can get an idea where to start, including myself (INSAYN). With this new found ideas, users are able to open up their minds, tool boxes and garages to create their own projects. I like to see people build their own tools. It gives them personal satisfaction, and something to share with the rest of us. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is Randy Cain's bender. He and I have bounce a couple of e-mails off each other, and this is what he came up with. He went a step further on his design than I did, and installed the removable horizontal bar at top that I eluded to for upgrades. Great Job Randy!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is yet another fine example of a homemade bender sent in by Mark Patton.
Looks like it is bending up some nice curves. Also note the trick tube
notcher on the lathe. He says he has prints if anyone is interested.
Here is the E-mail that goes with the pics to explain the
details.
"Craig,
The bottle jack is a 12.5 ton from Jet tools. With this
jack it bends 1.25"x.120 wall steel tube with one hand on a 10"
handle. I can get 120 deg. bends if the part clears the top of the
bender. I used this jack because the base is only 4-1/8" wide
so my springs are on the inside. The die I made on a CNC Lathe at my shop. It
started as a 9"x 2" billet of 1018 crs. I think I could make 2
dies out of one piece. If anyone needs one made let me know, we could work
somthing out. The follow die at the bottom I used a ball end mill with a few
passes. The project took about 20 hours total but I had no prints then.
so if I made it again I would say 10 to 15 hours. Some of us have more
time than money 8-) By the way I finished the prints
Wednesday nite. There are 9 prints in all, also a materials list with venders
names and part numbers for the bearings, bolts, nuts, jack and such. I'm
thinking $20.00 American for the set let me know what you think. This is the
2nd one I have made. The first one was ripped of 12 years ago. Before I had a
cad program so when I built this one I had to go from memory.
PS. Putting some paint on it today. When I get it apart
I will shot more pics. Also started a 1.5"x 5"rad die today
the one in the pics I sent you is 1.25"x4.5"
Later, Mark "
