Now I am on to the meat of the car. It actually gets to look like a car
from here on out.
The front hoop was a fun one to figure out. It took some math
calculations to get it right with one tube. I put an 80 degree bend on
either side to match the window frame. I then had to put a 30 degree bend
+ a 10 degree bend on an offset at the same time to get these results. I wanted
the bar to be parallel to the door frame and slightly off from the window, so it
would rise up into the roof area a bit. AS WELL AS, have the bars tip
inside and be attached to the pan, via the second cross brace.
Here is the front hoop as it turned out. What I did not take into
consideration was the doors. I tried to hang the doors, and found that the hoop
elbows are in the doors path. Since I am not about to toss this nice DOM
hoop, I will modify the doors to fit. I was also thinking of making a set
of soft doors for it anyway.
I made the rear cab hoop a little different than most kits would provide, due
to the style of cage this is. If you look closely, you can see that there
are actually 4 bends to the hoop. The two primary bends are 65
degrees each, and the two smaller bends are 25 degrees each. I wanted to
raise the rear hoop closer to the roof line.
And by raising the center of the hoop a little it made a clean point for the
overhead bars. I gave the bars each a 15 degree bend to make them run
level with the door opening, as well as add some height to them, so I don't
smack my head on them.
