It has been a while since I have had a chance
to work on this car, due to lack of funding, time, and the attention required of
a baby. But over the last few months, I was able to tinker on the cage a
little more, and get more of the rear section of the cage figured out.
These are after shots, that I have just recently taken.
This is kind of a walk around to give a better perspective of the whole car a
this point. (The exhaust and bug motor parts are for the orange
baja.)
Since the last page, I have installed the diagonal bars that tie the roll
cage to the rear horizontal section. As well as a few diagonal bars down
to the lower frame extensions.
Pictured here is a closer view of how I attached the lower section of the
cage to the frame of the car. It consist of a 3/16" thick plate with
a nut welded to it, and then welded to the end of the tubing. It is then bolted
to an ear that is attached to the rear extensions. To add some extra
strength to the area, I notched in a set of diagonal bars from the upper
cage to, and through the ears. I will do a full weld to the entire area,
when I get more of the rear cage closer to completion. It is much easier
to remove a tack weld if I decide to change something.
